Ingredients

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed (2 sheets)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup strawberry preserves
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar, for dusting

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Heart Cookie Cutters
  • Hand Mixer

Method

  1. Prep the Pastry: Preheat oven to 400°F. Unfold thawed pastry on a floured surface. Cut out shapes using a 3-inch heart cutter. Score an inner border on each heart with a smaller cutter, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  2. Egg Wash: Whisk the egg and water together. Brush the outer borders of the pastry hearts lightly with the egg wash.
  3. Make Filling: Beat the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until completely smooth.
  4. Assemble: Spoon a dollop of the cream cheese mixture inside the scored border of each heart. Top with a spoonful of strawberry preserves.
  5. Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes until the edges are puffed and deeply golden brown. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • If the raw dough gets too soft while shaping, place the baking sheet in the fridge for 10 minutes before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven or air fryer to restore the flaky texture.
